Our company is built on long term relationships, often developed over decades. Our buyers regularly travel to visit the farms and cooperatives that supply our tea and coffee and have a genuine rapport with our suppliers – because when we work with people, we want those relationships to be real and sustainable.
And those buyers have years of training, tasting and travelling under their belts. Collectively, they have spent many decades seeking out the very best teas, coffees, fruits and herbs from the world’s best suppliers and skilfully blending them, back home in Harrogate. Between them, they taste a thousand teas a day and hold three professional ‘Q Grader’ qualifications – an internationally recognised coffee tasting accreditation still held by only 40 people in the country.
We’re proud to be founding members of the Ethical Tea Partnership, which helps producers meet internationally recognised standards. We run our own grant schemes to reinvest in suppliers’ communities and we work extensively with independent certification bodies, like the Rainforest Alliance, the Fairtrade Foundation and UTZ Certified. These are just some of the reasons we carry the Royal Warrant, as an official supplier to the Prince of Wales.
It’s all about doing things properly – from the way it’s grown to the flavour in your cup. We’ve been devoted to that idea for over 125 years, since our founder Charles Taylor sold his first pack of tea.
